Chicago to get more than wind

It’s the end of the world as we know it. Again.

Last spring, NBC rocked the West Coast with the ratings-pleasing earthquake drama “10.5.” This summer, the big-screen scare-a-thon “The Day After Tomorrow” flash-froze New York City. Next month, CBS will attempt to wipe Chicago off the map with its ominously titled mini, “Category 6: Day of Destruction.”

The sweeps miniseries (airing Nov. 14 and 17) focuses on a landlocked “perfect storm” bearing down on the Windy City. Brian Dennehy is an about-to-retire National Weather Service meteorologist who’s watching three big storm systems: powerful tornadoes that have laid waste to Las Vegas, an abnormally warm storm front moving up from the south and a blast of Arctic air coming from the north. Meanwhile, a heat wave and drought are crippling Chicago, even as the U.S. Secretary of Energy (Dianne Wiest) warns the power grid could fail at any moment.

And we thought being a Cubs fan was punishment enough.
