A children’s musical based on Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will have its world premiere Nov. 26 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Music for “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” was written by Leslie Bricusse -- winner of two Oscars and a Grammy -- and Anthony Newley, who did the songs for a 1971 version of the film.

It’s the tale of poor but good-natured Charlie, competing with four unpleasant kids -- a glutton, a spoiled brat, a gum-chewer and a TV addict -- for a Golden Ticket to enter Willy Wonka’s factory and win a special prize. The cast includes both live actors and puppets.
