Muslims Protest as Ramadan Banners Fall

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Muslim business owners in southeast San Diego have complained that the removal of 16 green-and-white Ramadan banners from lampposts was discriminatory. Code enforcement officers took down the banners last week after receiving a complaint call. The city said the Diamond Business Improvement District did not have permission to post the banners.

Muslim business leaders say the banners have been community fixtures for several years during the monthlong holiday.
