Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville has started lobbying for a spot at the national title game should his Tigers go undefeated.

Auburn (8-0) is fourth in the bowl championship series rankings.

The Tigers could be 12-0 if they were to win the Southeastern Conference title game and be left out of the Orange Bowl.

“I’d be shocked if a team ever goes through their schedule in the SEC and wins an SEC championship game, be 12-0 and not have an opportunity to win the national championship,” Tuberville said. “I think you can just look at the teams in our league, it’s very demanding.”

Auburn can lock up a spot in the SEC championship game with a victory Saturday at Mississippi.

Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang will try to break the NCAA’s record for passing yardage tonight when the Rainbows play No. 18 Boise State in a Western Athletic Conference game at Boise, Idaho.

Chang needs 241 yards to break Ty Detmer’s NCAA record of 15,031 yards set from 1988 to 1991. Chang has thrown for at least 300 yards in five of Hawaii’s (3-3, 3-2 WAC) six games and has 1,977 yards this season.

And although the Broncos (7-0, 4-0) have Division I-A’s longest winning streak at 18 games and have won 22 WAC games in a row, their pass defense is ranked 103rd in the country.
