Blackdoun completed the same three-race sweep that Ladies Din had for trainer Julio Canani in 1998 when he won the $400,000 Del Mar Derby on Monday.

Following his victories in the second division of the Oceanside Stakes and La Jolla Handicap, the 3-year-old Verglas colt lagged early, then accelerated nicely when asked by jockey Corey Nakatani and went on to beat Toasted, a 6-1 shot, by a neck.

In winning for the sixth time in 14 races, Blackdoun, who is owned by Naify and Woodside Farm LLC, ran the 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:46.75. The win was the fourth for Canani in the Derby and his fifth graded stakes win of the meet.
