Pedroza Sets Meet Record
Martin Pedroza, riding at almost a 40% win rate for the season, rode five winners Saturday at the Los Angeles County Fair, giving him 49 for the meet and breaking the Fairplex Park record set by David Flores in 1991.
Pedroza’s fifth winner came aboard She’s Movin On in the 12th race on the card.
A race earlier, he rode Semi Lost to victory in the $100,000 Pomona Derby.
Flores set the record with 48 wins during a 19-day meet. Pedroza set the record in 16 days, and has one day left. He has nine mounts today on the final card of the meet.
Pedroza is assured of leading the fair for the sixth consecutive year. He has a record 429 wins at Fairplex. Flores is second with 291.
Semi Lost, running for only the second time on dirt, gave trainer Jeff Mullins his third Pomona Derby win in the last five years. Mullins and Pedroza will be teamed again today as they try to win the Ralph M. Hinds Pomona Handicap with Kristine’s King.
