Powerful visuals are winners

Regarding “Best Shot Has Seen Better Days” [Letters, Sept. 5]: Photography is more than puppies and grandchildren. Pictures make you think and make you feel. Some of the best photos in history are of horrific subjects. Real life in Panama is far more interesting than another sunset-at-the-Grand Canyon shot.

If the writer felt compelled enough to write a letter because the photograph struck an emotional chord, then I would suggest it was a success and worthy of appearing in My Best Shot.
