Football Camp Is Scheduled at Compton

Antonio Pierce, a fifth-year linebacker who signed as a free agent with the New York Giants on March 4, will conduct a free football camp for players 7 to 14 years old from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Compton High.

Pierce and other NFL players, including St. Louis Ram tight end Brandon Manumaleuna of Carson, will offer advice on drills and techniques during the non-contact camp, which will feature participants in full gear.

Other NFL players taking part include linebacker Jessie Armstead of Carolina, cornerback Rashad Bauman of Cincinnati, safety Ryan Clark and tight end Robert Royal, both of Washington.

Baseball

Huntington Beach Edison, ranked No. 12 in the Southland by The Times, defeated tournament host Las Vegas Bishop Gorman in eight innings, 4-2, to advance to the Blue Division championship game.

The Chargers (11-3) took the lead when Garrett DeGrazio scored on a throwing error after reaching on an infield hit and advancing with two stolen bases.

Brandon Cooke singled home Andrew Mozeleski with the final run. Chad Blauer (1-0) pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up one hit and five walks and striking out three.

Edison will play at 10:30 a.m. today against Tucson Catalina Foothills, which defeated Los Alamitos, 6-4, in the other semifinal Friday.

Girls’ Water Polo

Junior Grace Reynolds, who led Santa Ana Foothill to its fifth Southern Section Division I title in six years, has been selected the division’s player of the year. Foothill’s Dave Mikesell was chosen coach of the year.

Goalkeeper Brittany Fullen and Jordan Anae, both seniors at Corona del Mar, have been selected co-players of the year in Division II after leading the Sea Kings to their third consecutive section title. Mitch Yamamoto of Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula and Keith Nighswonger of Fullerton Sunny Hills were named co-coaches of the year.
