Doctor Gets 10 Years for Helping to Steal Babies
A doctor who helped the Argentine military steal babies from political prisoners during the 1976-1983 “dirty war” was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
An Argentine court condemned Jorge Luis Magnacco for falsifying the birth certificate of a baby born to a woman who was being held in a torture center and later disappeared. The child was given up for adoption.
Magnacco participated in the dictatorship’s “plan of systematic annihilation” of leftists, according to the court. Rights organizations say dozens of babies were stolen from prisoners.
