A giant marvel of a mistake

Re “A Colossal But Happy Mistake” [July 28]: Thanks for the article and gorgeous photos of the Morton Bay fig trees.

I live in the Brentwood/Santa Monica area and not a day goes by when I don’t admire them. In fact, I always think, “If they could talk, the stories they would tell.” I’m not a tree-hugger, environmentalist or even someone who “stops to smell the roses.” But these trees are spectacular and whether by error or on purpose, we are blessed to have them as neighbors.

Thanks for the history lesson.
