A man was arrested Saturday after he walked into a police station in Utah and confessed to killing his brother and sister-in-law in West Covina, police said.

Kent Holman, 66, is believed to have shot the couple to death in their condominium Friday, said Officer Craig Harding of the St. George Police Department.

The bodies were discovered after West Covina firefighters responded to a garage fire at the residence, in the 1700 block of Aspen Village Way, shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, said West Covina Police Lt. Pete Mena.

The victims’ names were not released. Police said the couple had lived in the condominium for several years.

West Covina detectives were investigating the deaths and fire when they received a call at 4 a.m. Saturday from police in St. George, Utah, who said they had a man in their office who had confessed to a murder in West Covina.

Mena said homicide detectives flew to St. George, near Interstate 15 in the southwest corner of Utah, to interview Holman.

Holman asked for a lawyer and did not answer questions, Mena said.

Police said they recovered a gun from his car.

“We believe that’s the murder weapon, but ballistics will have to confirm that,” Mena said.

Police suspect that Holman shot the couple, who were in their 60s, then set their car on fire.

The motive is unknown.

“There was evidence of arson, essentially gasoline poured in the car,” Mena said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the garage, but it did not reach the condominium.
