at Chicago, 5:30 PDT, FSN West

Site -- Soldier Field.

Radio -- 830, 1540.

Records -- Galaxy 9-8-5, Fire 11-9-3.

Record vs. Fire (2004) -- 2-0-1.

Update -- After only two victories in their last 11 games, both over expansion team Chivas USA, Galaxy players and coaches have been told that their jobs are on the line unless results improve dramatically. They run into a Fire team that also is under pressure. Chicago has lost three in a row, including its last two home games, has slipped from first place to second in the Eastern Conference and could fall to fourth with another loss. Making matters worse, goalkeeper Zach Thornton was red-carded for dissent in Wednesday’s 3-2 loss to Kansas City and is suspended tonight. Backup Matt Pickens will start. Defender C.J. Brown also is serving a one-game suspension. The injury-riddled Fire also will be without leading scorer Nate Jacqua, who has a bone spur in his left foot, and forward Andy Herron, who has a torn tendon in his right big toe. Forward Lubos Reiter will miss the game after being called in for Slovakia’s World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein. The last time the Galaxy won a league game outside Los Angeles was at Chicago on June 27, 2004.
