From Times Staff Reports

Two girls attending a family party were wounded in a drive-by shooting between gang members, and two suspects were arrested, authorities said Sunday.

The girls, ages 12 and 17, were each hit in the upper torso by stray bullets about 7:30 p.m. Saturday as they stood outside a house, said Sheriff’s Lt. James Hellmold. “It appears they were the unintended victims of gang gunfire,” he said, adding that the shots were fired at rival gang members in a nearby vehicle.

Both were taken to a hospital, where they were in stable condition. Their names were not released because they are minors.

With the help of information from witnesses, Jeremiah Baskin of Long Beach and Deandre Fradiue of Compton, both 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Hellmold said.
