Celebs planning to re-LAX

Everyone remembers Big Wednesday, the unofficial name for the club at Las Palmas that put Bolthouse Productions on the tabloid map. It was where Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, still a couple, canoodled lovingly. And where Oscar De La Hoya rolled with his lady friend, Shanna Moakler, now Mrs. Travis Barker. And Prince and Hugh Hefner and Janet Jackson and Paris Hilton angled with their posses for the best tables. Suddenly, downtown Hollywood was larger than life. Well, at least New York. As of Wednesday, it was making a comeback. Las Palmas was scheduled to make its debut as the newly shellacked LAX, a modern tribute to airport lounges everywhere. Jared Leto, the Olsen twins and the Simpson sisters had RSVP’d to attend the Bolthouse-hosted evening. LAX co-owner DJ AM, the original Big Wednesday DJ, was tapped to spin. LAX, which serves late-night airport food (think Cinnabons and Pizza Hut), opens to the public Aug. 26.

Preparing to pop its cork

Look for Social Hollywood/Boulevard 3 to make its debut on New Year’s Eve. We hear the new spot at the former Hollywood Athletic Club (owned by Peter Famulari, who is Ian Schrager’s partner in Sky Bar) features lush velvets, shimmery chandeliers and an American contemporary menu from chef Jeffrey Chodorow. ....More flashback music: Here comes Pop Rocks Fridays!, featuring Jeri Curl, a confection taking its cues from such cover artists as the Spazmatics, Boogie Knights and Metalshop. Pop Rocks debuts Friday at the Vine Street Lounge, and there’s no cover.... It’s also free at the door Tuesdays at Tokio.
