Danny Califf scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute against his former team to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 victory over the Galaxy on Saturday night.

Another former Galaxy player, Alejandro Moreno, scored San Jose’s first goal, in the 23rd minute.

However, Landon Donovan, a former Earthquake player, tied the game in the 37th minute.

Califf headed in Ronald Cerritos’ corner kick for the win.

San Jose (12-4-8) solidified its hold on the MLS Western Conference lead, and the Galaxy (10-10-5) lost a chance to move into second place.

Herculez Gomez set up Donovan’s goal seconds after entering the game to replace an injured Jovan Kirovski, who suffered an injury to his right knee.

Gomez passed to Donovan, who blasted a 22-yard shot past Earthquake goalkeeper Pat Onstad for his 10th goal of the season.

San Jose scored the game’s first goal when Moreno headed in Mark Chung’s free kick for the Venezuelan’s sixth goal of the year.
