A carpet of clouds in Tanzania

THIS might look like the top of the world, but Nate Steel of Saugus still had about 3,000 feet to go. The 19,340-foot summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania was the high point, literally, of his trip through Africa two years ago. This image, captured with a Nikon F-55, was taken from the Shira Glacier. Above the clouds is Mt. Meru, 44 miles west of Kilimanjaro. The altitude made him sick, but “I wasn’t going to turn back 1,000 feet from the summit.”
