Avocado tree with staying power

RE “A True Giving Tree [Nov. 24]: I just want to say what a joy it was to read your article on avocado trees. When we bought our house here in San Francisco seven years ago, there was a huge -- no, massive -- avocado tree in our backyard. After about four years of no fruit, we decided to hire a professional and remove the tree. Well last year, the tree started growing back and now it’s about 7 feet tall! I love it and in a way am glad it came back. I hope it bears fruit one day.
