Nation’s 9th Bird Flu Fatality Is Confirmed
From Times Wire Reports
The World Health Organization has confirmed Indonesia’s ninth bird flu death, a man who died in the capital, Jakarta, last month, a senior Health Ministry official said.
The victim, identified only by his initials, A.R., had a history of contact with poultry, the official said. In addition to those who have died, five people in Indonesia have contracted the H5N1 bird flu virus but survived.
The virus has ravaged poultry stocks across Asia since 2003, and it has killed at least 70 people, most of them in Vietnam.
