Liking the Ruckers’ simple vibe

RE “It’s All That They Need” [Dec. 15]: Thanks so much for this article. It’s about the basics of human life. Like the Ruckers, we live in a smaller, older house with about 1,200 square feet in eastern San Diego County. Like the Ruckers, we do not feel denied. Having material objects means less to us all the time. Our environment is composed of stucco, rocks and landscape. Our patio, surrounded by vegetation, is like an extension of the house. Yes, our garage has windows too.

I enjoyed the article about the secure architect and his wife very much. I say “secure” because they obviously don’t have to impress anyone, and that takes guts. The ideas were terrific. It was so nice reading about that kind of lifestyle. I remember reading that before Diane Sawyer married Mike Nichols, her apartment furniture consisted of moving boxes. My kind of gal.
