Wright Has a Reunion in Columbus

Tyler Wright wasn’t sure what the reception would be upon his return to Nationwide Arena, but it soon became clear that Blue Jacket fans haven’t forgotten one of their favorite sons.

A near-sellout crowd of 17,387 gave the Mighty Duck forward a rousing ovation when his name was announced in the starting lineup.

Wright was a fan favorite in his four-plus years in Columbus because of his tenacious play and his involvement in the community, particularly his work with pediatric cancer patients.

“I had a charity here [Hats for Heroes] that I started up and got going,” said Wright, traded with defenseman Francois Beauchemin on Nov. 15 for Sergei Fedorov. “It’s really true to me and my family. I’ve met a lot of kids and families who aren’t so fortunate in that they battle cancer. There was going to be a lot of kids here tonight and some families that I know have been through tough times. That’s going to be the most emotional part.”

Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh was excused for a third consecutive day by Duck Coach Randy Carlyle as he tends to personal issues.

Carlyle said he had no additional information on Ozolinsh’s absence.
