Final Grade I of Year Has Great Intentions

Trickle Of Gold, who has won six in a row, isn’t the only shipper on a roll entering the $250,000 La Brea Stakes today at Santa Anita.

Great Intentions, a 3-year-old daughter of Cat Thief owned by Barry Schwartz and trained by Mike Hushion, has won three consecutive races entering the final Grade I stakes of 2005.

Purchased for $65,000 at Keeneland as a yearling, Great Intentions has won those last three races by a combined 18 lengths. She finished in a dead heat with Reunited in the second of those victories on Sept. 25 at Belmont Park.

Jon Court will ride Great Intentions, who was second and fourth in her two previous races outside New York. She ran twice at Gulfstream Park early in the year. She will race coupled in the wagering with Mystic Chant, an Unbridled’s Song filly who has won two of four. Jose Valdivia Jr. will ride Mystic Chant, who has never run in a graded stakes.
