Long Beach Puts Away Cornell

Jibril Hodges and Kevin Houston sparked a 17-4 run over the final 4:11 to lead Long Beach State to a 79-65 victory over visiting Cornell on Friday night.

Hodges scored all 12 of his points in the second half and made two key three-point baskets down the stretch for the 49ers (4-6). Houston made six free throws in the final 1:22 and finished with 12 points and four steals.

Onye Ibekwe also scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and Kejuan Johnson finished with 11 points for the 49ers.

Lenny Collins scored a season-high 27 points for Cornell (4-7), which committed 29 turnovers.

With the score tied, 61-61, the 49ers forced four straight turnovers to take a 71-62 lead with 2:12 left.

Fairfield 66, Cal State Northridge 65 -- Terrence Todd scored 18 points, including the game-winning layup with 4.2 seconds, to lead the Stags (2-7) over the host Matadors (5-5).

Northridge, led by Jonathan Heard’s career-best 25 points, had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Mike Efevberha dribbled into three Fairfield players and had the ball knocked away as time expired.

Wisconsin Green Bay 77, UC Irvine 65 -- Josh Lawrence scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Phoenix (6-7) over the Anteaters (4-7) in the Oneida Casino Holiday Classic at Green Bay, Wis.

Patrick Sanders led five UC Irvine players in double figures with 12 points.
