City Told to Diversify Public Housing Program

Federal officials are recommending that Berkeley diversify its public housing program, suggesting that the city has been favoring black applicants.
The recommendations, which include a suggestion that Berkeley consider recruiting students from UC Berkeley, stem from a routine review by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Berkeley Housing Director Stephen Barton responded with a letter disputing the findings.
