Waves End Skid With 85-68 Win

Yakhouba Diawara had 22 points and 11 rebounds to help Pepperdine end a five-game losing streak with an 85-68 victory at San Francisco on Thursday night.

Alex Acker scored 16 points, Glen McGowan had 14 points and Kingsley Costain scored 13 as Pepperdine, 13-10 overall and 3-5 in the West Coast Conference, won for the first time since defeating the Dons, 64-57, on Jan. 9 at Malibu.

John Cox scored 24 points for San Francisco (13-8, 4-4), which lost for the first time in 11 games at Memorial Gym.

The Waves started the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 13-point lead with 14:45 remaining. Costain had two three-point baskets during the run.

The best that San Francisco could do was manage a 7-0 run in the second half to cut the deficit to nine points.

The Waves then responded with a 12-0 run to take a 21-point lead.

San Diego 77, Loyola Marymount 70 -- Brandon Gay scored 20 points and Brice Vounang had 18 at San Diego as the Toreros (11-10, 3-5) ended a three-game losing streak.

San Diego shot 59.3% from the field in the second half as it took the lead early in the half and never trailed again.

Matthew Knight scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Lions (10-11, 2-6).

San Diego had a commanding edge in rebounds, 40-23.
