From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Using this morning’s high tide as leverage, a tugboat crew will try to dislodge a 165-foot ship that ran aground in Newport Beach over the weekend.

The Eland, a steel-hulled, 298-ton vessel, lodged into the ocean floor while helping dredge Santa Ana River storm-drain channels Sunday morning. Long Beach-based Sauce Brothers Ocean Towing has been hired to tow the ship free during today’s 8:17 a.m. peak tide, authorities said.
