‘Ditty’s’ derivation

Robert HILBURN says “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry (Over You)” was a “ditty ... [Elvis] apparently heard in a Martin & Lewis comedy.... “ [“From the Man Who Would Be King,” Feb. 6]. Maybe so, but I remember it as a hit on the R&B; charts in 1954 by Roy Hamilton. Since Elvis followed R&B; closely, he probably was aware of it at that time.
