A man accused of opening fire in a crowded shopping mall with an assault rifle and wounding two people seemed to have a “lurid fascination” with the Columbine High School slayings, Dist. Atty. Donald Williams said in Kingston.

Robert Bonelli Jr., 25, sent shoppers scrambling for safety Sunday after opening fire in the Hudson Valley Mall, authorities said. They said he gave up after he ran out of ammunition and mall employees tackled him.

Police found a cache of “Columbine memorabilia” at his home, Williams said.
