New Judge to Oversee Abuse Case Settlements

A new judge has been named to oversee the settlement of 544 clergy abuse cases against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Judge Charles W. “Tim” McCoy of the Los Angeles County Superior Court takes over from Judge Peter D. Lichtman, who has presided over settlement talks for more than two years.
A lawyer for the archdiocese said insurers objected to Lichtman’s handling of the case.
