New Tunnel Found Under U.S. Border
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
U.S. Border Patrol agents Friday discovered a tunnel leading from Mexicali, Mexico, to Calexico in an area where two subterranean passages were found in the last 15 months, authorities said.
The 3-foot-by-3-foot wood-lined tunnel was found using high-tech earth-probing equipment. The tunnel, 20 feet underground, appeared to have a ventilation system.
An excavation was underway to search for tunnel openings. No arrests have been made, authorities said.
