I read Jane Engle’s article on alternative spring breaks [“For This Party Over Spring Break, Bring Your Own Hammer,” Travel Insider, Feb. 20] and was disappointed that she didn’t mention Boston College’s Appalachia Volunteers program. It was founded in 1978, making it one of the oldest of these types of programs. It was one of the most important experiences of my life.
