Sunscreens reduce the threat of UV damage in the high country. But be forewarned: While most protect against UVB rays, few offer more than minimal protection against the equally harmful UVA rays.

Note: Ultraviolet radiation levels rise 5% for every 1,000 feet of elevation, and snow reflects UV radiation. SPF measures UVB, but not UVA, intensity.
