Ravens Interested in Chow as Assistant

Norm Chow, USC’s offensive coordinator, will be considered for the same position with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun.

Raven Coach Brian Billick said the team would like to have a new offensive coordinator in place before the team’s personnel meetings in two weeks. Billick’s ties with Chow date back nearly 30 years to Brigham Young.

Chow could not be reached for comment.

Chow interviewed to become coach at Stanford in December. The school hired former Pittsburgh coach Walt Harris.

During a post-Orange Bowl news conference in Florida on Wednesday, USC Coach Pete Carroll, responding to a question about whether Chow was content, said, “You’d have to ask Norm about that, but I know that he was frustrated by not getting the Stanford job. It was one that he really coveted and would have liked to have taken over, so I think he’s just checking things out and seeing where he is right now.”

Afterward, Carroll said he thought Chow would remain at USC, but added that the end of the NFL season “makes all kinds of things happen.”

Carroll also said he hadn’t decided who would replace Ed Orgeron as defensive line coach. Orgeron left to become head coach at Mississippi.

Carroll said he probably would hire someone from outside the staff rather than move a current staff member into that position and that he would “love” to make graduate assistant Ken Norton a full-time member of the staff.
