The Miami Heat began its longest trip of the season by getting double-doubles from Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers, 103-92, on Friday night.

O’Neal had 28 points and 10 rebounds and Wade 25 points and 12 assists for Miami, which led by as many as 22 in winning for the 16th time in 17 games. The Heat’s only loss came Monday against the SuperSonics, and it can avenge it Sunday night at Seattle on the second stop of a five-game trip.

Miami has won eight straight road games.

Ruben Patterson moved into the starting lineup and had 27 points for the Trail Blazers, and Zach Randolph added 25 before fouling out.

Patterson and Randolph picked up Portland’s pace midway through the third quarter, and narrowed the score to 65-59 on Randolph’s layup and free throw.

The Heat widened the margin again to as many as 14 points, but the Trail Blazers rallied again midway through the fourth when Randolph’s driving layup made it 92-86.

But Portland was hurt when Randolph fouled out with 4:19 left.
