A legal victory in art tug of war

The Orphans’ Court of Montgomery County, Pa., recently ruled that the financially troubled Barnes Foundation can move its renowned art collection from suburban Philadelphia to the center of the city -- overturning the will of philanthropist and collector Albert C. Barnes -- but legal action isn’t over.
Jay Raymond, a current student and former teacher at the Barnes, filed an appeal Tuesday challenging the court’s earlier decision to deny Barnes students legal standing in the case. Raymond said that the students were prohibited from presenting their argument against the relocation.
The appeal is expected to work its way through the Pennsylvania Superior Court in the next eight to 12 months.
