A Milestone Win for Sutton

Eddie Sutton tied his mentor Henry Iba for seventh place on the career coaching victories list when No. 6 Oklahoma State defeated Missouri, 78-68, on Tuesday night at Stillwater, Okla.

Sutton improved to 767-293 in his career, which included stints at Creighton, Arkansas and Kentucky before he returned to his alma mater in 1990.

Joey Graham scored a season-high 27 points, and John Lucas had 18 for the Cowboys (12-1, 2-0 Big 12). They took the lead for good with two free throws by Stephen Graham midway through the second half and then held off the Tigers (9-6, 1-1), who moved within a point on three occasions.

No. 4 Wake Forest 81, Maryland 66 -- Justin Gray scored 25 points at Winston-Salem, N.C., to lead the Demon Deacons (14-1, 3-0 Atlantic Coast) past the Terrapins (9-4, 1-2).

No. 19 Louisville 107, Southern Mississippi 62 -- Francisco Garcia had 25 points at Hattiesburg, Miss., as the Cardinals (13-3, 2-1 Conference USA) routed the Golden Eagles (9-6, 0-3), who have lost four in a row.

No. 23 Alabama 64, Arkansas 61 -- Earnest Shelton scored 18 points at Fayetteville, Ark., as the Crimson Tide (13-3, 2-1 Southeastern) held off the Razorbacks (13-3, 1-2).

OTHER GAMES

Brett Collins scored 15 points, and St. Mary’s overcame poor shooting in the second half at Moraga, Calif., for a 59-58 victory over Air Force (10-6). The Gaels have won nine in a row.... Mike Wilkinson scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds at Madison, Wis., as Wisconsin (11-3, 2-1 Big Ten) defeated Ohio State, 72-66, to extend the nation’s longest home winning streak to 37 games. Terence Dials scored 15 points for the Buckeyes (12-4, 1-2).

Ronny Dawn’s go-ahead three-point basket with 38 seconds left at Charleston, W.Va., helped Marshall (3-10) to a 59-55 victory over West Virginia (11-2).... Allan Ray scored 27 points at Providence, R.I., as Villanova (9-2, 2-1 Big East) hung on for a 83-78 overtime victory over Providence (9-6, 0-2).... Freshman Jeff Green scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half at Washington as Georgetown (10-4, 2-1 Big East) rallied from a 12-point deficit and defeated Rutgers, 62-55. Juel Wiggan had 23 points for the Scarlet Knights (6-6, 0-2).
