Hasty Kris Has a Local Feel

Share

Hasty Kris, who has registered four of his seven victories at Santa Anita, will try for another in today’s seventh race, a $56,000 optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs. He is the 5-2 favorite on Jeff Tufts’ morning line.

An 8-year-old gelded son of Kissin Kris owned by C R K Stable and trained by John Sadler, Hasty Kris posted a four-length win in his most recent local appearance on Oct. 11.

Rene Douglas, who was aboard when Hasty Kris won the 2003 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap at Calder, has the mount again today.

None of the five other entrants has won more than once at Santa Anita. In fact, two are winless. Slew Of The Night is 0 for 2 and Sinister G. has yet to run here.

Owned by a partnership, Sinister G, a 4-year-old Matty G colt, will be making his first start for trainer Jeff Mullins and his first since June 22. The Florida-bred is best known for his 16-1 upset in the Lane’s End March 22 at Turfway Park. He will be ridden by Mark Guidry.

The 3-1 second choice is American Fury. He has been first or second in three of four at Santa Anita and will be ridden for the first time by Pat Valenzuela.

Race of the day: Cativa, who won her final two starts of 2004, will make her first start since June 17 for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. in today’s eighth at Aqueduct. The 5-year-old Sir Cat mare, who has won half of her 16 starts, will be ridden by Aaron Gryder and will break from the outside post in the field of five in the $54,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

One for the road: Fortress Hill is racing for the first time for trainer Todd Pletcher in today’s eighth at Gulfstream Park. John Velazquez will ride the 4-year-old Forest Wildcat filly in the $33,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Zeestop and Top This And That in the second, Spencer’s Magic and the Licari entry in the third and Lovely Journey, Feel The Heat and Playing ‘R Song in the fourth.
