The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Jesus Fonseca, 19, of Marietta, Ga.; private first class, Army. Fonseca was killed Monday when a car bomb detonated near him in Ramadi. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea.

George R. Geer, 27, of Cortez, Colo.; private first class, Army. Geer was one of two soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb detonated near them in Ramadi. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea.

Paul C. Holter III, 21, of Corpus Christi, Texas; corporal, Marine Corps. Holter was killed Jan. 14 in a noncombat-related incident at Camp Ramadi. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Alain L. Kamolvathin, 21, of Blairstown, N.J.; specialist, Army National Guard. Kamolvathin was killed Jan. 16 in a motor vehicle accident in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in New York.

Francis C. Obaji, 21, of Queens Village, N.Y.; private first class, Army National Guard. Obaji died Monday at the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident Jan. 16 in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in New York.

Jayton D. Patterson, 26, of Sedley, Va.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Patterson was killed Jan. 15 when he stepped on a land mine in Babil province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Christopher J. Sullivan, 29, of Princeton, Mass.; captain, Army. Sullivan was killed Tuesday when a bomb exploded next to his parked vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Nathaniel T. Swindell, 24, of Bronx, N.Y.; sergeant, Army. Swindell was killed Jan. 15 in Mosul when an Iraqi national guardsman’s weapon misfired, striking him in the back. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Thomas E. Vitagliano, 33, of New Haven, Conn.; staff sergeant, Army. Vitagliano was one of two soldiers killed Monday when a car bomb detonated near them in Ramadi. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea.
