FCC won’t act on 36 TV complaints
Federal regulators on Monday denied 36 complaints of broadcast indecency in connection with TV shows including “Friends,” “The Simpsons” and “Gilmore Girls.”
The complaints to the Federal Communications Commission were filed by the Parents Television Council, a watchdog group that frequently complains about sex and violence on TV.
“None of the segments were patently offensive under contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, and thus not indecent,” the FCC said.
The PTC alleged the programs, from Oct. 29, 2001, to Feb. 11, 2004, contained sexually explicit segments or used indecent or profane language.
One complaint involved a May 2003 episode of “Friends” in which a female character, her husband and his ex-girlfriend talk about fertility treatment.
Several complaints were about a November 2003 episode of “Gilmore Girls” in which college pranks were discussed.
