“36 Views”: A series of 19th century woodblock prints by Hokusai inspired Naomi Iizuka’s play, but don’t look for serene mountain vistas. “36 Views” uses the rough and tumble of the contemporary art scene to examine concepts such as “real,” “fake,” “beauty” and “love.” Iizuka’s philosophical ruminations are presented in a narrative involving literate and sensitive people whose training hasn’t immunized them from colossal blunders. Iizuka and director Chay Yew borrow elements from Kabuki and other Japanese theater forms: When not onstage, actors linger at the edge and provide sound effects.
