Oh say, have you heard their big hit?
They got their start performing a song from “The Lion King” at an elementary school talent show. Now they travel the country singing the national anthem at stadium sports events before tens of thousands of fans.
And they don’t even have a record.
They are the Ruth Girls, and if you haven’t heard them, you can soon. This Friday, the teen trio will make its L.A. debut performing its harmonized, a cappella, vocally acrobatic version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the Lakers game Friday night against the New Jersey Nets.
This summer the singers likely will make an even larger splash when they record an album with Glen Ballard, the producer who, 10 years ago, transformed then-unknown Canadian starlet Alanis Morissette into a household name.
Originally from Washington state, now living in Central California, the Ruth Girls are real sisters -- Elizabeth, Leslie and Sarah Ruth, ages 19, 17 and 15, respectively. They’ve been singing together for 11 years, ever since they received a standing ovation for their performance of “Hakuna Matata.”
These days, their sound is less Disney and more “soul rock,” Leslie says. “We’re a more current version of Heart and Stevie Nicks.”
