* United Parcel Service Inc. said quarterly profit rose 1.2%. Net income increased to $866 million, or 76 cents a share, from $856 million, or 75 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 10% to $9.84 billion.

* Western Digital Corp. of Lake Forest said net income for its second fiscal quarter fell to $56 million, or 26 cents a share, from $68.8 million, or 32 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 14% to $955 million.

* McKesson Corp. reported a fiscal third-quarter net loss of $665 million after it settled a shareholder suit and increased reserves to cover future liabilities. The loss of $2.26 a share contrasts with net income of $120.2 million, or 41 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 14% to $20.78 billion.

* Veritas Software Corp., which is being bought by Symantec Corp. for $11.2 billion, said fourth-quarter profit fell 32% to $128.7 million, or 30 cents a share, from $190.6 million, or 43 cents, a year earlier when the Mountain View, Calif., company had a $95-million tax benefit. Sales rose 14% to $574.4 million.

* Siebel Systems Inc. said fourth-quarter profit climbed 32% and sales rose for the first time in more than three years on demand for software licenses. Net income rose to $53.8 million, or 10 cents a share, from $40.7 million, or 7 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 7% to $392 million.

* Corinthian Colleges Inc.’s quarterly net income fell 5.5% to $20.7 million, or 22 cents a share, from $21.9 million, or 23 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 23% to $248.1 million.
