Currie Helps No. 1 Duke Make Recovery

Monique Currie rattled in a jumper with 41.2 seconds left to help top-ranked Duke rebound from its first loss with a 60-57 victory over No. 20 Maryland on Thursday night in Durham, N.C.

Currie also made two free throws late for the Blue Devils (19-2 overall, 5-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference), and finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Wanisha Smith added 14 points for Duke, which has won 10 straight and 13 of 14 in the series.

Shay Doron scored 16 points to lead the Terrapins (13-5, 3-4), who led by four early in the second half and fought the Blue Devils the entire way only to come up short.

No. 3 Ohio State 86, Wisconsin 67 -- Jessica Davenport scored a career-high 36 points and the Buckeyes (20-2, 7-1 Big Ten) stretched their winning streak to nine games.

Freshman Jolene Anderson scored 24 points at home for Wisconsin (7-10, 1-6). The Badgers have lost their last 18 games against ranked opponents.

No. 5 Tennessee 68, South Carolina 53 -- Shyra Ely scored 16 for the Lady Vols, who overcame early struggles to win their 30th straight over the host Gamecocks.

The Lady Vols (15-3, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) haven’t lost to the Gamecocks (6-14, 0-6) since a 56-52 defeat on Jan. 23, 1980.

No. 12 North Carolina 83, Wake Forest 61 -- Erlana Larkins scored 18 points at home to help the Tar Heels (16-3, 4-2 ACC) defeat the Demon Deacons (13-6, 2-4).

No. 19 Georgia 81, Florida 61 -- Tasha Humphrey scored 21 points and the host Bulldogs (16-5, 4-2 SEC) rallied from an early 10-point deficit to beat the Gators (12-7, 3-3).

Miami 62, No. 21 Florida St. 57 -- Yalonda McCormick had 23 points, including the last four, to lift the Hurricanes (9-10, 1-5) to their first ACC win of the season, in Coral Gables, Fla.

Miami ended a five-game losing streak in the series and ended a five-game winning streak for Florida State (18-3, 5-2).

Northwestern 59, No. 22 Penn State 48 -- Ifeoma Okonkwo scored 19 points to lead host the Wildcats (5-16, 2-6 Big Ten). The Wildcats raced to a 37-18 halftime lead on 16-of-28 shooting from the field. Penn State (12-7, 7-1) was eight of 29 in the half.

No. 23 Vanderbilt 73, Kentucky 67 -- Ashley Earley scored 24 points on the road and Carla Thomas added 22 to help the Commodores (14-5, 3-3 SEC) end a three-game losing streak. Kentucky is 13-8, 2-4.

No. 24 Temple 72, George Washington 64 -- Cynthia Jordan scored 26 points to lead the Owls (16-3, 8-0 Atlantic 10) to their school-record 13th straight victory, in Philadelphia. George Washington is 12-6, 5-2.
