29 Members of Mad Cow’s Herd Killed and Tested

WASHINGTON —
The government has killed and is testing 29 cows from the herd of the Texas animal infected with mad cow disease, the Agriculture Department said Friday.
Investigators have been working to identify herd members born within a year of the infected Brahma crossbreed’s birth 12 years ago.
Twenty-nine adult cows were removed from the herd Wednesday, the department said.
They were taken to a collection site and killed, and tissue samples were removed for testing, according to the department.
