Re “Grieving Police Provide Account of Fatal Standoff,” July 12

How big can a 19-month-old daughter be? You mean the Los Angeles police force has no sharpshooters? You mean the police can’t find parts of the victim’s body to shoot not covered by the daughter? Inexcusable manslaughter.

The neighbors were evacuated. The crazy father is running around with a gun in one hand and a baby in the other. The police couldn’t wait any longer? How many bullets did the gun have?

Bratton said the officers feared for their lives. I suggest that a policeman who chooses his life over a baby is probably in the wrong line of work. Is that the same as a fireman refusing to go into a burning building to rescue a child because he might get burned?

After reading the article about Susie Lopez, the toddler who was shot in the standoff with the LAPD SWAT unit, I see that the mother of the child is now crying out for justice, not an apology. In the article she claims that her husband was a caring and loving father. In the next paragraph he is described as a husband who was served with a restraining order related to a child molestation allegation. I suspect that the child’s mother has seen the light and is now being counseled in an effort to try and win the official L.A. city lottery, brought on by this tragic event. Never mind that the father, Raul Pena, set the stage for the events that followed.
