Dream’s Tries Two Turns

Share

Dream’s won half of her eight starts in South America and is one for one in this country.

The 4-year-old Chilean bred finished in a dead heat with Crowded Room over 5 1/2 furlongs on the Hollywood Park grass on May 28. The chestnut daughter of Sam M. will stretch out to 1 1/16 miles in today’s seventh race.

Owned by Tom Lenner and trained by Ron McAnally, Dream’s should be even more effective around two turns. She won at this afternoon’s distance in her homeland and also won going 1 1/8 miles in her final start at Club Hippico on Nov. 15.

Alex Solis, who was aboard for her domestic win, has the call today in the $55,000 optional claimer. Dream’s will break from the rail in the field of eight.

The race features the comeback of The Candi Queen. A need-the-lead type, the 6-year-old Candi’s Gold mare hasn’t run since finishing third in an allowance race at Santa Anita on Feb. 6. Owned by James and Marcia Equils and trained by Steve Knapp, The Candi Queen is winless in seven starts on the grass but has been second or third in five.

The field is completed by Five Nickels, Addario, Seeking The Heart, Danclare, Cold Cold Woman and Vencedora Amiga.

Race of the day: Justakiss, who beat maidens at odds of 47-1 on June 18 at Churchill Downs, will try for back-to-back victories for trainer Bill Mott in the seventh on the opening day card at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky. Apprentice Jordan Charkoudian will ride the 3-year-old Mt. Livermore filly for owners David Richardson and Hiram Polk in the $23,800 allowance at one mile on turf.

One for the road: Life looked good winning on June 18 for trainer Christophe Clement and can come right back in a tougher spot in the eighth at Belmont Park. Jose Santos will ride the 4-year-old French bred for Winter Quarter Farm in the $50,000 optional claimer at 1 1/8 miles on the grass.

Exotically speaking: A late pick four using Sea To See, Reel ‘Em In and Hoax in the fifth, Flying Fugitive, Devote and Mr. Phantom Slew in the sixth, Dream’s and Five Nickels in the seventh and Imperial Tower and Yes I’m Tricky in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 1/151. Money: Previous day/meet total: $4.60/$823.70. Total money bet: $1,022.
