Two East Los Angeles teenagers were shot to death inside a market Thursday evening, the victims of an apparent gang killing authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 5:15 p.m. in the 500 block of South Indiana Street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Vanette Christensen.

“Both victims were patrons in the market when the suspect entered the market and began shooting and then fled,” Christensen said.

A 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, an 18-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital, where he died, authorities said. Neither victim’s name was released pending notification of relatives.

“The preliminary investigation indicates this was a gang-related crime and not a robbery,” Christensen said. The victims were described as regular customers at the market.

The killer remained at large. He was described as a male Latino in his 20s, with a medium build, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and was wearing a white T-shirt, authorities said.
