Panel Planning Election to Replace Councilman
Two sets of dates are being considered for an election to replace Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa on the City Council.
One option, city officials say, is to hold the primary Oct. 11, with a runoff Dec. 13, if needed; the other is a Nov. 8 primary with a possible runoff Jan. 10, 2006.
The council’s Rules and Elections Committee decided Tuesday to wait so it could coordinate with a possible statewide special election. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is to decide in the next two weeks whether to call a special election Nov. 8.
