California Is Eliminated by Arizona
Allyson von Liechtenstein’s bloop single to left field in the 12th inning Saturday helped Arizona defeat California, 3-2, and eliminate the second-seeded Bears from the Women’s College World Series at Oklahoma City.
Kelly Anderson, who was taken out in the second inning and re-entered in the 11th, walked Callista Balko and Crystal Farley to start the 12th before Von Liechtenstein singled. It was only her fourth RBI of the season.
Adrienne Acton, who pinch-ran for Balko, slid home as the throw from left field sailed over the catcher’s head.
The loss ended a streak of three consecutive appearances in the title game for the Bears (52-15), who beat Arizona to win the title in 2002, then lost to UCLA the last two seasons.

Alabama vs. DePaul -- The elimination game involving the Crimson Tide (62-14) and Blue Demons (45-20) was postponed because of rain and lightning. It will resume this morning with Alabama batting in the bottom of the eighth inning and the score tied, 1-1.
