Don’t Expect Those Ratings to Go Boom
NBC really outdid itself by hiring creaky John Madden to be its new analyst for its Sunday night NFL games. Real football fans know that Madden has been on autopilot for more than a decade and that he is mocked much more often than he is praised.
NBC executives probably wonder why they are last place in the ratings race behind CBS, ABC and Fox. Hiring long-faded “stars” like Madden will ensure that they hold their position in the ratings cellar indefinitely. Maybe they should bring back the cast of “Friends” to do sideline and color commentary.
