Airport Police Chief Bernard J. Wilson announced Friday that he would retire this summer from the force that patrols the city’s four airports.

Wilson, 52, has been police chief and the security coordinator since April 1999 at Los Angeles International Airport, where he’s responsible for the security of the 3,500-acre facility.

Airport officials said a successor would be named after Wilson’s retirement date has been set.
